Replica Frames

Our antique reproduction frames are made in the same manner as the original antique frames. No frame design is produced in bulk; each frame is handcrafted one at a time with great attention and craftsmanship. Carved frames and those with applied embellishment are all painstakingly crafted before being gilded and patinated to simulate the effects of antiquity. Consequently, the frame has the charm and elegance of an old frame.

The process includes planning and spindle molding the carcass; hand carving of beading; application of gesso, then fixing of set inner leaf and outer guilloche ornaments: application of yellow followed by red bole; gilding with gold or silver leaf; burnishing, toning, and patinating to match the original.
