The Farewell

The Farewell, also Avskjeden (Nor), is a work by Norwegian artist Harriet Backer (1845 - 1932). It's one figure and tableau oil on canvas painting created in 1878. The painting is owned by the museum of Nasjonalmuseet for Kunst, Arkitektur og Design - Oslo, one of the museums with the most Harriet Backer works, and is accessible to the general public. Harriet Backeris a female artist, an unusual sight among the men painters of her day. Harriet Backer was influenced by Impressionism and Naturalism, and made most paintings about figure and tableau and interior.
