Printmaking transfers pictures from a matrix onto paper or cloth. Modern painters have added screenprinting to traditional woodcuts, etching, engraving, and lithography.

A matrix is a wood, metal, or glass template. The matrix's flat surface is designed using tools or chemicals. The matrix is then inked for transfer. To print from a matrix, regulated pressure, usually from a printing press, is needed to generate an exact imprint of the pattern on paper or cloth. Screenprinting doesn't need a press. The print generally mirrors the matrix's design. Multiple impressions of a design may be produced from a single matrix in printing (excluding monotype).

Only a print is available? With PaintingZ, you may consider famous printmaking artists and get a hand-painted reproduction of any print, with oil on canvas or pencil or pen on paper. Additionally, we can frame art for you with matte, backboard, and glaze.

The most renowned and prolific print artists include Albrecht Dürer (German, 1471 -1528), Rembrandt van Rijn (Dutch, 1606 -1669), Helen Hyde (American, 1868 -1919), Nicolai Astrup (Norwegian, 1880 -1928), Hans Baldung (German, ca. 1484 -1545), Aubrey Beardsley (British, 1872 -1898), Master of the Housebook (German, 1450 -1505), Cornelis Visscher (Dutch, 1629 -1658), Master E.S.
